Erik M. Carey began his career as a consultant to fiduciary investment boards concerning such issues as setting investment policies and guidelines, asset allocation parameters, qualifying asset managers and performance measurement.
From 1992-1995 he was instrumental in expanding fiduciary research and investment consulting services for Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith (now Bank of America Merrill Lynch). Prior to his Wall Street engagement, Mr. Carey was a consultant to the United States Agency For International Development (USAID) in collaboration with the Costa Rican Department of Economic Development (CINDE) where he was instrumental in attracting foreign investment dollars to the Central American economy.
In 1995 he founded Carey Investment Advisors to offer research and investment advisory services to a select number of institutions, corporations, foundations and Family Offices. He has hosted a radio talk show entitled Money Matters on A.M. 730 discussing financial markets and investment strategies; and appeared as a frequent guest on Political News Network where he discussed the economy and the impact of current events.
He founded Fortis Capital in 2001 to acquire, develop and manage commercial real estate although he is most proud of his philanthropic contributions to local youth organizations through coaching, mentoring and academic tutoring. He resides in the Washington D.C. area with his three children and wife of twenty five years.
